Hurricane Simone is bearing down on New York City. A regular hurricane would be
bad enough news for New York, but Simone is far more powerful than any past
hurricane. That's because Simone has been intentionally enhanced by a rogue
scientist. Carter Thompson used to work for a secret government project that found a way
to spark powerful hurricanes. Carter is now a billionaire who has been secretly using weather
modification to accumulate wealth and power. Hurricane Simone will be an example of Carter's
power. It is up to Kate Sherman -- an employee of Carter's who discovers the suspicious weather patterns -- and
Jake Baxter, a weather expert working
for the CIA, to stop the unnaturally powerful storm before it destroys much of New York City.
Bill Evans is an Emmy award-winning meteorologist, and he puts his knowledge to good use in this
well-written science thriller. The threat of a New York hurricane is a reality.
This novel takes that threat and ramps it up a few notches. Romance novelist Marianna
Jameson's skills are also evident in the novel's steamier scenes. Scientific thrillers are notorious for their
stilted loves scenes, but Jameson's deft touch weaves the romantic subplot smoothly into the action.
Weather science combined with political intrigue make this is an entertaining
read for thriller fans, whether or not they are weather buffs.
